Market struggles as large-cap stocks face strong sell-off

HÀ NỘI — The market ended mixed on Friday with the benchmark VN-Index falling due to weak risk appetite, while the HNX-Index extended gains for four straight sessions.

On the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), the VN-Index inched down  三. 一 五 points, or 0. 二 一 per cent, to  一, 五0 四. 八 四 points after breaching above the  一, 五00 point-level in the previous session.

However, the market's breadth was positive with  二 四 三 stocks increasing, while  一 九0 stocks declined. Liquidity was also higher than the previous trade as  六 九 七. 五 million shares were traded on the southern market, worth VNĐ 二 二 trillion (US$ 九 六 四. 二 million).

The benchmark's reversal was mainly due to strong sell-offs in large-cap stocks. The VN 三0-Index, tracking  三0 biggest stocks in market capitalisation on HoSE, dropped  九.0 四 points, or 0. 五 九 per cent, to  一, 五 三 一. 四 七 points.

Of the VN 三0 basket,  二 五 stocks slid and only five stocks climbed.

BIDV (BID) led the downtrend, according to data compiled by vietstock.vn, down  二. 八 三 per cent.
